HRH Duke of Gloucester visits Himmah charity in Nottingham
Nottingham-based charity, Himmah, had the honour of hosting His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester at their premises in Radford, Nottingham. The visit was part of an initiative to highlight the organisation’s impactful community work to tackle food poverty, race and educational inequality.
Accompanied by the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Professor Veronica Pickering, the Duke was warmly welcomed by Himmah’s Vice Chair of Trustees, Ferzana Shan, and Founder and Director, Sajid Mohammed.
During his visit, the Duke joined volunteers from Nottingham software company Ideagen, one of Himmah’s key corporate partners, in packing food parcels - a vital component of the charity’s mission to combat food insecurity. This hands-on engagement highlighted the collaborative efforts required to support Nottingham’s most vulnerable communities.
His Royal Highness also met with representatives from several local and national initiatives, including Karen Worth, Co-Chair of the Salaam Shalom Kitchen, Bilal Hussain, Head of Engagement at the Runnymede Trust as well as representatives from Shifting Your Mindset, Wahda CIC, HEYA Nottingham, and Park Garden Trail. These organisations represent the wider network of partnerships that enable Himmah to drive meaningful social change across diverse sectors.
It's not the first time the charity have received Royal recognition, in February 2024 Himmah were awarded the Kings Award for Voluntary service, an accolade of which they are immensely proud.
Speaking on the visit, Sajid Mohammed, Founder and Director of Himmah, said, “We are immensely grateful to HRH Duke of Gloucester for taking the time to visit Himmah and witness the work of our volunteers and partners firsthand. His presence underscores the importance of collective action in addressing challenges such as food poverty and inequality.”
The event served as a celebration of Himmah’s ongoing efforts to foster solidarity and inclusivity in the Nottinghamshire community, building bridges across faiths, cultures, and socioeconomic divides.
